The tour allows visitors to have the incredible experience of seeing chimps and birds in different habitats, seeing chimps in two different parks of Rwanda and Uganda, with each park offering its unique attractions.

Day 1: PRIMATE AND GAME TOUR IN RWANDA AND UGANDA

 

This is a bi-country tour combining primates and game in both Rwanda and Uganda. The trip starts from kigali Rwanda and ends from Entebbe Uganda. On this trip, you will visit Nwungwe and park to Parc National des volcans park where you will track mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. You will visit Queen Elizabeth and Kibale forest parks in Uganda. Here you will track Chimpanzees in Kyambura gorge and in Kibale forest. You will take a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel viewing hippos, crocodiles and various species of birds. This trip allows you to see various species of game in queen Elizabeth park as you take game drives searching for these attractive species including, kobs, elephants, buffaloes and many more.

Day Itinerary

On your arrival at Kigali International airport, you will be welcomed by our guide and transfer to Kigali town.

Day 2:           Nyungwe Forest Lodge         

Nyungwe

Nyungwe, in South West of Rwanda, is a huge afro-montane forest. With over 10000sq.km in size, Nyungwe is the undisputed giant in Central Africa. The natural forest is renowned for its large troops of colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, butterflies and a rich variety of orchids. Over 300 bird species have been recorded. While there, stay at the modest Nyungwe Top View Hotel.
The terrain in Nyungwe Forest is rugged and steep, and you will be at relatively high elevation, and it can rain at any time of the trek so come with appropriate clothing. Visit some cultural sites en route - the Museum in Butare and the palace at Nyanza. This tour is for nature lovers, lovers of culture - travellers who want to see as much of African culture as possible and combine it with chimps.

Day Itinerary

After breakfast you will head for Nyungwe Forest National Park. Make stops en route at places of interest including local markets, the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. You will visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum in Butare, You will have Lunch en route before proceeding to Nyungwe Forest across cute hilly sceneries modified by tea plantations en route.

Nyungwe Top View Hotel is located in 5km outside the Nyungwe National Park close to the Gisakura Tea Estate precisely on the road from Park to Rusizi former Cyangugu. The hotel offers you a starting point to visit Chimpanzees, Different trails, Canopy walkway, Bird species of Central African Highlands, More than 120 orchid species, various trees species, Colobus troop living on the nearby Tea Estate and Vervet monkeys occasionally pass through the grounds.


 

 

 

 

Day 3: Primate Tracking- Nyungwe Top View Hotel         

Day Itinerary

You will go primate tracking in the forest in search for chimpanzees. Time permitting, you will continue on a guided nature walk in the forest searching for birds including; the black and white casqued hornbill, turaco and many others, the forest has over 300 species of birds. On the forest walk you will also see gisakura water falls.

Day 4: Nyungwe Forest – Parc National des Volcans        

 

Parc National des Volcans
Found in the north of Rwanda, the park habituates approximately 300 mountain gorilla species. Ten Gorilla families are habituated for tracking. They include; Mahoro and Umubano families found on the Visoke volcano, Hirwa family on the Sabinyo volcano and Sabinyo family located between the Sabinyo and Visoke volcanoes. There are also Susa family with 35 individuals on the Karisimbi volcano and 13 individuals on the Sabinyo volcano. There is Kwitonda family as well. Each of the Gorilla families allows a maximum of 8 tourists tracking per day. On addition to gorilla tracking, you may also climb the Visoke volcano and track other primates including golden monkeys. You will also visit the Dian Fossey’s Karisoke Research Centre on a village walk. 

Day Itinerary

You will go for a nature walk in the morning and rest for lunch before transferring  toParc National des volcans. You will see stunning sceneries of hills/volcanoes en route to Kinigi

Day 5: Parc National des Volcans [PNV]-Gorilla Tracking         

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, you will depart for the headquarters of the Park for briefing before starting to track gorillas. After an hour of experiencing one of the closest primates to humans, you will retire for lunch. Afternoon at leisure or visit local communities.

Day 6: Par National des Volcans-Kisoro-Uganda    

 

Day Itinerary

Track the golden monkeys before transfer to Kisoro in south western Uganda

Overnight: Travellers Rest Hotel

When you enter Travellers Rest Hotel, you enter history. One of the oldest hotels in Uganda, boosting on an impressive list of guests. To name just one: Dian Fossey, who even called this second home. Situated just outside Kisoro it offers a quiet setting with an amazing view on the Virunga volcanoes. In the evening our lounge with its big fireplace is the perfect spot to wind down from a day filled with experiences.

Day 7: Kisoro-Lake Bunyonyi

Kisoro is located under the peaks of the Mufumbiro Mountains, which are part of the Virunga Mountains and home to rare mountain gorillas. Mountain scenery, Lake Mutanda, colorful markets, and volcano trekking also are available for visitors to Kisoro. It is the nearest town to the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and is an access town for those traveling to Rwanda or the DRC for gorilla tracking in the Volcanoes National Park or the Virunga National Park

Day Itinerary

Go for a guided nature walk in Mt Mgahinga National Park, climb a volcano and visit the beautiful Lake Mutanda in the volcanoes region. Break for lunch in Kisoro and thereafter transfer to lakeBunyonyi in Kabale.

Overnight: Crater Bay Cottages

On the lakes shores, Crater Bay Cottages is offering you a base to explore the lake, ecologically built, with local materials. It is locally owned and provides important employment opportunities for the people around the lake.
Lake Bunyonyi has no bilharzia, no crocodiles, no hippos, and due to its altitude malaria is rather scarce - you could hardly find a friendlier body of water on our continent.

Day 8: Lake Bunyonyi-Queen Elizabeth National Park

Day Itinerary

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth Park and go for an Afternoon game drive.

Overnight: Simba Safari Camp

Simba Safari Camp is a budget safari accommodation situated on the border of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here you will find a variety of comfortable and affordable guest rooms, dormitory rooms and a well-established campsite with safari tents or space to pitch your own. Perched on a hill, the camp offers spectacular views of Lake George, Lake Kikorongo and the classic African savannah plains stretching to the distant horizon. It is the closest accommodation for game drives in the Kasenyi plains, and elephants and buffalo can even be viewed from the camp.

Day 9: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park (QE), below the famous Rwenzori mountains, is an African savannah park, consisting of plain surroundings. The park which is part of the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley, is centred around Lake Edward and Lake George. The launch trip along the Kazinga Channel linking these two lakes is especially good for viewing hippo, buffalo, elephant and a large host of birds amounting to over 500 species!  Around Ishasha go on the hunt for the famous tree-climbing lions which lounge nonchalantly in the upper branches of high trees! The beautiful steeply forested Kyambura Gorge nearby, is home not only to chimpanzees but also the red-tailed monkey, black and white colobus and many bird species. 

Day Itinerary

Wake up early in the morning for today’s visit to Kyambura gorge for chimpanzee tracking, an encounter with this man’s closest primate is a remarkable experience you will ever have. In the afternoon, you will be taken for a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel where you will be able to see wildlife like Elephants, Hippos, Crocodile and different bird species. You will also go for an evening game drive to search for more animals in the park.

Day 10: Queen Elizabeth National Park - Kibale Forest National Park

 

Kibale Forest National Park

Kibale Forest has the highest number of primates in Africa - thirteen species in all, including red, black and white colobus, blue monkeys and baboons and a large number of chimpanzees. A forest walk provides a high possibility of seeing and hearing the vast number of chimps and other primates playing and jumping around through the forest. With over 300 bird species recorded in the forest, Kibale boasts of many rewarding experiences not thought of in some other forests of Africa. An excursion to Bigodi and Magombe wetlands gives the opportunity of seeing the unusual birds, chimps, baboons, monkeys and other primates which live around the swamp. Money paid for Bigodi and Magombe goes directly to the local communities.

Day Itinerary

Go for a morning game drive searching for game especially the early morning raisers and later transfer to kibale forest park arriving late in the afternoon

Overnight: Chimpanzee Forest Guest House

Located just inside Kibale National Park only 23 Km from Fort Portal on the Kamwenge Road.
Accommodation outside of the main house is offered in either a large twin bedded self-contained or in a choice of three self-contained cottages with views of Kibale Forest National Park. You may also camp on flat grassy sites.

Day 11: Kibale Forest National Park-Chimpanzee Tracking

Day Itinerary

Track the closest brothers of human in kibale forest the highly populated in the region, Kibale is a tropical rain forest with other primates like bush babies, baboons, black-and-white colobus, red-tailed monkey, and several bird species together with trees including the Elephant beer tree, all can be spotted on a nature walk in the forest. Take a lunch break and head to Bigodi for a swamp walk on the trails by the local community.

Day 12: Kibale Forest National Park-Entebbe

Day Itinerary

You will drive back to Kampala city, making a stop by the equator for photos and then continue to Entebbe airport via Kampala city (Uganda). Fly out.

ChimpanzeeFrom Kigali in Rwanda, you will visit Nyungwe Forest, the largest afro-montane forest in Central Africa for chimps, birds and other primates. Continue to Parc National des Volcans in the north for gorillas (one gorilla permit price at US$750 is included in the cost). Crossing over to Uganda (visa fee $100, and back to Rwanda  $60), track chimpanzee and see birds as well as game including lion, buffalo, leopard, and elephant in Queen Elizabeth Park. Return to Kigali for your flight.
